Mission: Episode 6 - Point Of Enlightenment
Location: Medical
Timeline: Before present mission

ON:

Liam entered knowing there would be questions. The boy beside him 8, was nervous. He at least wasn't terrified of Liam's face. Having an understanding that this place was not where he was from and the Liam before him not the one who had parted him from his mother.

He suspected he was his real father but Liam could sense he was holding back hope. Nothing good had happened recently. He was still being moved around and had no idea what was happening.

"Doctor," Liam called out spotting Lyras. "Could you help us with something. We will need I think a counselor too. I cannot do it as erm Im too involved in this story."

"Of course sir, how can I help" the youthful doctor answered, casting the child an encouraging smile. "Greetings young man, I do not believe we have met before. I am Lyras, what is your name?"

Alena entered sick bay, more than a bit disturbed by the talk she had had with her mother. Looking at her surroundings, she Liam, whom had helped her out with her telepathy. Next to him stood a boy, who clearly felt distressed. "Hello there", she said as she walked over to the Liam and the boy. She nodded to the medical personnel, Lyras, and looked at Liam. She had heard Liam ask for a counselor. "How are you today?", she asked.

"Lyras," the child said his eyes looking terrified for a second. Are you Brell's consort here too? Hes not nice I don't want to see him," he pleaded looking at Liam and the other lady.

The Vulcan shook his head, blissfully unaware of his counterpart's business or private life. "No little one, I am no-one's consort. Nor is he here on the station." He cast the boy a -hopefully- encouraging smile. "You are safe here." He looked up at Liam. "Where are his parents?" He asked.

"This is Cade. He is my son but he was born in a alternate reality," Liam explained calmly. "The version of Niska there got him out and brought him to where she grew up here. A friend of mine, got him to me. And he's been through a lot."

"My father is the emperor where I'm from. He's an evil man too," Cade said to Lyras. "I forget people here are different."

"Give us time," Lyras said gently, still staying at the child's eyelevel. "You will see we are indeed different. I do not know about my counterpart, but here, I am a doctor."

"Mother was a doctor. She used to tell me stories how she kept my father alive and eased his discomfort during the tests," Cade said.

Liam flinched ever so slightly.

He cleared his throat. "That's rather a uncomfortable story. Lets park that for the moment. Cade is staying here. I want him safe with me, so we are officially requesting ...

"Asylum," the youngster finished.

"Yes. I don't want certain agencies trying to take him back to that reality. My mother is working on that side of things with her diplomatic contacts but I need you two both to carry out a physical and psychiatric evaluation for the process. And because he's been through a lot," Liam said.

"Obviously," Lyras said, more to himself than the others. "Is there anything specific you want me to look for?"

Alena nodded her understanding, as she went down on Cade's level. "I'm Alena. You are Cade, right?", she greeted the boy, offering him a gentle smile.

She had no idea as to what the boy was going through, but she was going to do what she could for him. While the boy had clearly been through trauma, possibly to the extent where it would take him years to make peace with he had been through, she had feeling that Cade was a survivor. She had no doubt that the boy would do what was needed to cope.

"Cade Telamon," He said. "Or Reynolds. Possibly. My mother maintained it but .... " He looked at Liam. "You didn't claim me in that other reality. You ... he I mean ... he hid me a way. A secret."

"In that case," Liam said. "We also need a DNA test. But I believe you are my son. I sense you as family. Hopefully it will put your mind at rest Cade. He, the other me, he was too blinded and wrapped up in his other abilities I don't believe he connected often to his basic biology any more."

Lyras patted a nearby bio. "Young master Cade, please hop up if you please," he told the boy, "and we will establish your true identity in a moment." He waited for the child to get onto the bed, then started scanning him thoroughly.

After a few minutes he looked up. "I have compared his readings to yours commander, and there is a 99% probability that he is indeed your offspring."

Liam nodded. He had no doubt since the moment Jack had handed the boy over to him. Cade blinked a few times. "Then why did he hide me away?"

Lyras looked to Alyssa first, then shrugged. "I do not know. Safekeeping is one option, leverage is another. I do not know what motivated the Emperor. But you are safe here. Your parentage is confirmed."

Liam nodded at the doctor. He knew why he had kept him a secret but that was a conversation for another time and probably best for when he was older. "What about his health in general?"

"Perhaps a little malnourished, but otherwise appears to be in good health sir. He is however a hybrid. One quarter Betazoid, one quarter human and one half of what the computer says is Ba'ku. Though I do not know what a Ba'ku is..." Lyras cast the man a questioning look. "Whether he is psychologically healthy, a counselor would need to ascertain that sir, I am not qualified to make that assessment."

Liam nodded again. "Thats where you come in Counselor. I'm not expecting that one to be as quick as this one."

"You have never met a Ba'ku?" Cade asked looking at the doctor. "Are there no Ba'ku here?"

"I have never heard of them," the young Vulcan admitted, "they were not yet known, where I come from."

"From what I've seen so far, i wouldn't send Cade back, nor anywhere else. Too much trauma", Alena told the Doc and Liam, then looked at Cade. "I will fight tooth and nail to keep you here. Just by your current reaction to what is going on, it will not be good for you to be tossed around between the current departments, who might want answers", she went on as she glanced at Liam. "You deserve peace and quiet after all you've been through".

"Just stay with Lyras for a moment Cade," Liam said ushering the counselor to one side.

"He does deserve peace and quiet and a wonderful life. I want to give him that now I know he exists and he's my son. I would like to take him down to the colony and give him a proper home.

Can you sign off on that? I assume he will need some proper counselling. I assume Kaylee and I will need it too. Some family counselling to help with the changes and everything he's been through," Liam asked her.

"Of course I will", Alena said. "I agree with you. "Cade deserves to get stability on his life. I'll happily sign off on it. Let me know if there is anything else you might need. I'll be sure to have some free time for counseling in my schedule.

Lyras sat with the child, quietly talking to him as he waited for Liam to come back. "Commander, the child is most definitely your child. I doubt you would even need to request asylum for him as he is your child. Formally acknowledging him should be sufficient sir "

"Really?" Liam asked. "In that case I formally acknowledge Cade as my son. Do I need to do anything else?"

"I am not certain. Perhaps commodore Haistro can help you there?" The Vulcan hybrid shrugged.

"What if I don't want to be formally acknowledged. The other you didn't. And I will not be trapped back in a room and hidden away again." Cade said clearly frightened.

Liam looked at both the doctor and counselor. His son had no idea on what a proper family was.

"That's not what will happen," he said softly. "I would take you to my home on the planet to live with me and my wife Kaylee and you would never be locked in a room. You will have your own room to sleep in and keep your things, run of the whole house and you will be able to go anywhere on the colony. Sometimes we will come back up to the station too. And you can go to school ...."

"School?" Cade asked.

"School. Its where you learn and meet friends," Liam said. "Don't you Doc and Counselor?"

Lyras managed to nod though in his experience while school was for learning, it was not for making friends. "It is," he forced himself to agree.

Liam could sense Lyras's school years had perhaps not been as happy as his. "Don't worry about school. We will cross that bridge once we have you settled at home on the planet.

Cade bit his lip. And nodded. Niska had said he could trust his real father.

"Thank you doctor and Counselor. I will make an initial family appointment. Before we go," he said hearing his sons stomach groan. "We will get something to eat and you some clothes and other essentials.

"I get new things? Do I get to pick them?"

Liam nodded. "Of course. You will be wearing them."

The young man half smiled. Perhaps this place wouldn't be so bad after all.
