Personality & Traits

General Overview Alena is a happy young woman, who is always ready with a smile for her surroundings. She loves living, and has a great enjoyment in being all things creative and reading. She find people interesting to observe, though preferably from a distance. Having been raised, first in Brazil, and later on in the state of Washington, USA, she felt a bit like an outsider.
Her looks were vastly different from her peers in the States, and she endured some bullying because of it. She also has some telepathy/empathy, which she has had little guidance in. Despite being labeled "different" in her school years, she managed to get her education with fine grades. Originally, she had thought she'd stay on Earth and be a cook in her mother's restaurant, but her love for adventure and learning new things set her on the path of joining the Starfleet Academy.
She sometimes let her slender frame and exotic china doll looks make people show their true nature. She has often run into some people who thought her an empty-minded hen.
To Alena, looks can be deceiving. Even a smile can, for her, hide a menace, just like a person covered in war scars, hide a kind soul.
However, she prefers that people judge her by her abilities, and not her looks.
While preferring a good book over a crowded party, she can still manage in crowds. Whenever she is at a party, she likes people watching.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths:
- Honorable. Alena doesn't what is the right thing to do, even though it might upset some people.
- Determined. When Alena sets her mind on something, she goes through with it. That said, she does think things through before doing something.
- Empathy/telepathy. Alena is aware that she can sense things in other people, and is trying to be considerate with what she learns from it.
- Not violent. Alena doesn't like violence and believes that peace can be achieved through calm negotiations.

Weaknesses:
- Telepathy/Empathy. Alena has some issues with her abilities, as she has had little training in them.
- Not violent. Not being violent can sometimes be an issue, as some people, bullies in particular, tends to be physical.
- Honorable. Being honorable means that Alena sometimes has to do things she'd rather not do.
Ambitions Alena's dream of becoming a diplomat has been there since she was 10 and had a project in school about being diplomatic. It made her realize that she wanted to make the world a better place, and diplomacy seemed like that path for her.
Hobbies & Interests Alena used to dance as a child, as well as painting/drawing, reading and listening to music. While she isn't good at singing, it doesn't stop her from doing it. She's an excellent cook, as she was raised in her mother's kitchen. She also loves learning new things.

Personal History Alena's mother, the human Catarina, gave birth to Alena when she was in her late 20's. Alena's father, a betazoid, left shortly after learning about Catarina's pregnancy.
Alena lived the first 5 years of her life in a Rio De Janeiro, learning all she could. Her neighbor was an American who taught her English and how to behave like a lady. The neighbor, an elderly woman, often watched Alena while Catarina were at work. When Alena turned 5, the neighbor had to return to the States, and invited Catarina and Alena to come with her. The neighbor, Mrs. Anderson, got Alena enrolled in one of the finest schools in the state of Washington. However, the neighborhood was one of those who weren't the biggest fans of other species.
People frowned at her whenever she was present, merely because she wasn't born in the small community. She knew there was nothing she could do about it, and also knew that she would not go down on their level. Her mother and Mrs. Anderson had taught her to be kind and not to be rude to others, even if they deserved it.
As the years went by, Alena became of the the best students of her year. In her free time, she read, did some drawing, and helped her mother in the kitchen.
At age 15, she started having headaches. It was then that her mother told her that her father was betazoid.
When it came out she was part betazoid, people frowned at her even more. So, she asked her mother about her father. It turned out that her parents had had a heated relationship while her father was stationed in Brazil. When he learned of the pregnancy, he had basically fled. Catarina said that it could have been because he had been reassigned, but Alena wasn't so sure.
It was in school that she learned what diplomacy meant. After several assignments and having graduated from school, she applied to join the Starfleet academy, to become a diplomat. While it was hard work, Alena loved every moment of it. Learning new things every day, she thrived.
At the Academy, Alena proved her self to be quite capable at the academic part of the studies. However, as she didn't have as much muscle as her peers, she was taught to outwit opponents rather than using brute force. The Academy became a sense of safety to Alena, as there were several teachers who were willing to help her with her telepathy and empathy.
Many of her peers were often up to mischief and did pranks and the like, something that didn't appeal to Alena. She preferred a good book and studying over silliness. Her hard work paid off as she graduated with some of the finest grades in her year.
After graduating, she spent some time thinking about what she wanted. Alena ended up deciding that she would like to be stationed where she could do a difference that wasn't near the Academy. She wanted to see the world, and thus asked to be stationed on either a ship or a space station.
Service Record Since Alena has finished the Starfleet Academy a mere 6 months ago, Space Station is her first assignment. She is ready to prove her worth and do what it takes to make peace.
