Osil still couldn't believe it, his big brother was gone. Just like that, no goodbye, no chance of closure. There wasn't even a body to identify. Yet Osil knew his brother was dead, he no longer felt his strong telepathic presence.

What made matters worse, there was a gap in his memories, like he was missing several days. And even worse, he felt an exhaustion he just couldn't explain.

With eyes even darker than normal, pale face and general unkempt look, the security officer slid into a seat and told the computer to connect to his baby sister.

It took several seconds, the Starfleet emblem spinning lazily on the screen for that time before it blinked away revealing a sleepy eyed, dishevelled, still pulling her robe around her Ileyana Haistro. She was pulling her fingers through her knotted hair that was sticking up on one side as it appeared her hair had come loose during her sleep but this sleepy look fell away quickly when she caught sight of Osil.
"What's happened?"

"He's gone," Osil choked out as he knew there was no easy way to say this. "Kei, he's gone, and there was nothing I could do to save him." That probably hurt him more than the loss of the sibling he had looked up to.

"I don't understand" but her palor had turned white. She knew but needed Osil to say it. "Save him... Osil whats happened?"

"He was infected with some kind of parasite... Me too and quite a number of others as well but he..." Osil's voice broke, there was nothing left of the proud security officer. "He carried the queen. It consumed him somehow...I don't know how exactly but he was killed...and there's no body to retrieve. At least, nothing we recognize." Trembling fingers touched the screen. "I'm so sorry I couldn't protect him...I failed...."

Ileyana went into controlled detachment. Her world was crumbling before her but she needed to stay strong.
"You didn't fail Os. I'm coming to you. I'm speak to my Captain and get some leave. I can be on the station in the next few days!"

"I think you should be here," Osil agreed slowly, "I feel.. very alone. His constant presence in my mind when he was near .." the young man broke. "I miss him," he choked out.

"I won't be long... A few days at most!"
Ileyana's course was set and nothing was going to get in her way. Her brothers needed her there, even if one would only be able to respond with his ethereal presence. "Ileyana out!"

Osil was so stunned at the sudden severance of the call, he sat staring at the Starfleet logo for several minutes. A few days would at least give him time to arrange quarters for her, his own weren't big enough to entertain a guest not unless she decided to share his bed and to him that was just unacceptable! At least, he reasoned, it would give him something to do, beyond just carrying out his duties.
