ON:

Mel walked back in somewhat tired from a gamma shift. "You know," she smiled at her handsome husband, placing a kiss on his lips. "The late shift was a lot easier when not pregnant. Have you eaten?" she asked. "Niska gave me these in the turbo lift. Some of the bars leftovers. Home made."

"I ate at Osils earlier but I'm sure Charlie might want some when she gets in!" he said, still working at the desk. The reports he was having to digest were taking up all of his time. The sooner his staff arrived from Starfleet, the sooner he could start delegating some of the smaller tasks.

Whatever the cake was smelt divine so Mel made a command decision to have her desert first. Hell she was pregnant. No one could say a word. Stuffing a huge spoon of the Croxian coffee in her mouth, she chewed and made a face Keiben usually only saw when the two of them were in bed. Then she bolted a little in her seat. "Oh no ."

"What?"

The exclamation pulled Keiben from his musings, concern lacing his own voice as he uttered the simple word.

"There's caffeine in this. You or Charlie will have to eat it," Mel said a sulky look on her face.

"Look behind you on the dinning room table!" Kei shot back a smile spreading across his face as he said it. "Niska dropped by earlier having realised what she had done so she brought you a sticky Mopa fruit cream cake!"

"Your mothers still not come into sickbay," Mel said broaching the subject. "To run those tests. Maybe she just doesn't like or feel comfortable with me."

"I... I have my concerns!" turning back to his work, his mind having already been split between fleet deployments in the sector and the sense of foreboding he had when it came to his mother.

"I know love. What do you want to do? I can go full on CMO if you like and chase her .... but shes your mother," she said finding the sticky Mopa Cake.

"I don't know!" he said, leaning back in his chair, the stylus he had been using clattered to the desktop as he dropped it so he could rub both of his eyes.

"Did I tell you I spoke to Os about her just before she turned up at his quarters?"

"No. What did you speak about?" she asked licking cream coming out of the middle of the cake.

"Neither of us trust her!" he admitted, finally giving in and moving across to the table, swiping his finger through the cream dripping from the side of the cake and savouring the taste as he licked his finger clean. "I'm not sure how to feel about that either!"

Mel frowned at him stealing her Moka cream. "Your angry Keiben," she said. "Both of you. And your allowed to be. She disappears from your lives for years. Shows up suddenly with a story no one can yet prove. Is avoiding medical tests. You want to trust her but can't. You want to love her and reconnect so that anger is being pushed down and ignored. Somethings do not sit right with your mother. I'm sorry to say that to you."

She grabbed a knife and cut the cake in two nudging half over to her husband waiting for him to process that.

"Please don't analyse me Mel... I don't need it right now!" he snapped, pushing the cake away as he moved away to the window, instantly regretting his tone but to angry to form an apology at the moment. It wasn't her he was angry with, it was the situation and himself.

"Its not an analysis. Its truth," Mel quipped back. She stabbed her fork in the returned cake. Sod him if he was going to be in a mood. She was the pregnant one yet Keiben seemed to have more hormones about him at the minute.

"Terrific bedside manner Doctor" the Betzaoid shot back, his tone more acerbic than even he had heard it before as he stalked away back to his desk, snatching up a PADD to continue his work, even if he was solely focused on what he was now perceiving as judgment from his wife.

Mel gave him a look. A look she rarely had to use but he deserved it right now. "I'm not on duty," she quipped back.

"Perhaps I should be in that case!"

Snatching up the other two PADD's from the desk, knocking a vase as he moved swiftly to leave their quarters.

"Oh FINE," Mel yelled after him. "I'll pick that up then shall I? Your exhausted just done a double shift in medical heavily pregnant wife."
