"Mum you can't put this off forever. She contacted Starfleet HQ and knows you went back there," Charlie said her arms folded. "She was clearly checking up on you. And she most likely knows we are here now."

"I know. I know. Its just I never met this woman. Sure Keiben told me a bit about her but she wasn't at our wedding and I have to tell her, her "Grandson" ...." yeah while she's mourning her son so to speak as well ...."

Charlie reached out and hugged her mother. "We just took off. No word to uncle Osil, any of the other senior staff. Any of our friends. Its not right. They will be confused and worried."

"It wasn't safe. The T'Kon were obsessively watching me - I honestly thought they would try steal your baby brother, your step father was possessed. Gone completely. And I was trying to make sure you and your baby brother," she said a couple of tears rolling down her cheek, "were safe.

Keiben would have wanted that more than anything. Before that thing got its claws into him, he adored you and even if it hadn't of got him once we figured it out what was on the station he would have sent us away to protect us believe me."

That much she knew for sure.

"Its safe now mum," the 16 year old looked her directly in the eyes. "And I will do it with you."

Mel nodded. Wiping her eyes she straightened her uniform collar and said, "Computer open communications to Deep Space twenty one. Admiral Leena Haistro,"

Seconds later the screen popped to life and wisely women was staring back at Mel with those tell tale Haistro eyes. She didn't speak for a few seconds but it seemed like an eternity to Leena as she gulped in two breaths, trying to force down the wave of emotion that seemed to try and overcome her.

When she was finally able to speak it was a single word, softly termed and conveying a maternal warmth that even Leena knew she had no right to be feeling towards the two women on the screen before her.
"Mel".

The Trill nodded nervously. "I should have got in touch sooner. This is Charlie. We heard you tried to get in touch with us on Earth. I know Keiben's lawyers have too. We are safe."

"Hi," the half Trill teenager waved next to her. "We are safe now. It was pretty scary well some of it," she told the other woman.

"I imagine you have questions?" the Trill doctor said.

"Call it concern for my daughter in law, my granddaughter and my grandchild" she said with a maternal warmth. She may not know Mel or Charlie but she knew Keiben and he had always been a strong judge of character. If she meant that much to him then she would to her as well. "You are family!"

Mel bit her lip. "About that. The baby was still born. On route back to Earth. They said I was in too much shock. I'm .... very sorry,"

"Oh my dearest... Oh my sweet girl!" Leena instinctively placed a hand on the screen as if she could grab hold of Mel's hand and squeeze it through the subspace link. "Charlie dear, I can't hug your mother so please do it for me!"

The teenager nodded. "I'm giving her lots of hugs don't worry. How are you and Osil doing?" she asked

"Its..." Leena paused, pulling herself together not wanting to show just how lost she was knowing her eldest son was now gone. She couldn't let it show, not to Mel with how fragile she likely was right now. "Its been difficult. Osil is putting on a brave face but he's hurting. Feels that he should have done more... and he misses you both!"

“We will contact him next,” Mel said. “Another issue and sorely not the right timing and I’m sure not something you will wish to discuss so I apologise but as we are on route to my new commission.

Your house lawyers also tried to get in touch. I thank you. I realise as Keibens widow I’m entitled to certain things but we don’t need anything. We are okay. We will stay in touch with the family of course. We would really love to do that but please keep everything else for when Osil gets married.”

"I will keep a few things in storage for you!" Leena said not allowing Mel a chance to object. Having been married to a Betazoid she was surly aware of the direct and forceful manner that most house matriarchs could exude. "You will always have a home here and on Betazed... You are a daughter of the house of Haistro!"

Mel nodded. She smiled a small smile knowing Keiben would be keen she keep ties. "I'll forward you my new assignment details so we can stay in touch. Please let the rest of the senior staff know Im safe. I feel awful I didn't get to speak to them either and if you ever need any medical support for anything -research etc you know I'm here."

"I may have lost a son but I have gained a daughter and a granddaughter!" tears pooling once again in the corner of her eyes. "Stay safe and I will talk to you both soon!"

Mel and Charlie nodded. "Till next time." The view screen went black.
