Mission: Episode 6 - Point Of Enlightenment

ON

It had been a restless night. Both he and Mel had stopped talking and despite waking up early he found that she had already gone... Perhaps for the best because right now he couldn't face her.

He could also pick up on snatches, echoes of the nightmare he had over night. Writhing, slippery as it burrowed, forcing its way in through the soft tissue. It had woken him with a cold sweat covering his skin. He had to put it down to reports he had seen of activity by the Local Orions having obtained a Ceti Eel, only one of many things he would need to tackle.. He just needed a day to start feeling better, his throat was scratchy and he was feeling a little warm.

He dressed quickly and ventured into the living quarters relieved once again that Mel was not there, or not yet. He had intended to grab a Raktajino from the replicator and escape his quarters rapidly but the sound of Charlie's bedroom doors opening froze him in place.

"Morning Keiben," Charlie said sleepily. "Where's mum?"

'She doesn't know then' he thought to himself as he smiled back at Charlie.

"We had a fight... I'm not sure where she is. I slept in my office last night!"

"Must have been quite the doozy. What did you fight about?" Charlie asked. "Coffee?" she said heading to the replicator.

"It was... I won't go into details because she is your mother... The last thing I want is for you to loose any respect for her!"
His words were soft as he nodded a yes to Charlie about the coffee at the same time as dropping down into a chair around the dinning table.

"Its been a while since we spoke... How are things, how's school. I never see you now!" he said, changing the subject.

“I’m a teenager. It’s not cool to be hanging out with one’s parents,” she said simply handing him a mug.

“Mums at the infirmary,” Charlie said flashing her PADD in front of him having done a location search. “Are you going to dig your heels in and be stubborn or go sort things out.”

"I need time to think!" he said gently, still trying to figure out what he would be doing in regards to Mel, or at least how he would go about doing it.

Charlie looked at him. Something felt off. "Well I have school. You will give me a heads up if I'm coming home to a warzone yes?" she said replicating some Bajoran pastries and stuffing one in her mouth before placing them on the table.

"Of course!" he said with a warm smile already sensing that Charlie could also be a problem. Thankfully she was only part Trill and not joined. She would be a candidate.

"You go, I wouldn't want to be the reason you were late!"

"I'm not even dressed yet," she looked at him curiously. "What are you up too trying to get me out of your hair already?"

"All good things come to those who wait!" he said cryptically as the door chimed. "Come in!"

Tamaska stepped inside, taking a look around, then her eyes stopped on Charlie.

"Captain. What brings you here... How are you feeling now?" his attention now focused on Captain Holt, all thought of Charlie now forgotten.

Charlie lit up and smiled at Tam. "I'll get you some coffee," she said.

Tam gave a slight smile towards Keiban,"I am feeling much better. I actually came to talk to Charlie about something important. That is if she would like to be my yeoman." her eyes turned towards Charlie. "Thank you, coffee sounds good."

"I can go if you need the time to speak to her alone?" Keiben asked, sipping at his drink.

"Well the thing is I'm already Keiben's yeoman," Charlie said not understanding why Tam now wanted her. She handed her the coffee she had just poured and continued work on her pastry.

"Well then, I guess I missed out on the possibilty of having you be mine. Then again last we spoke, emotions were high. And then much happened after that. Or you liking my husband." Tam just shrugged. "I am sorry for that interaction." She stated, then sipped her coffee before answering Keiben. "You do not need to leave at all."

"Then I shall just observe" he said, something of an unsettling smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he watched Captain Holt.

"You are both being very weird," Charlie said. "And liking your husband was just a phase. Im a teenager. Give me some slack. You know what schools more fun than trying to work you two out this morning."

She got up to go throw some clothes on.

"You are right that was a phase, and in truth you do make a good yeoman." Tamaska replied. When Charlie rose to go get changed, a beam of light shot out from Tamaska's hand, for she had palmed her 'holdout' phaser set for stun. Tamaska didn't want to have any untoward fuss or muss, in dealing with Charlie. It had proven to be very useful when it came for her, Tamaska, was concerned. One thing that the Captain had thought of was to make certain there wouldn't be any indication of phaser fire. Wouldn't want to have security come breathing down their necks.

Charlie groaned her hand slumping forward and covering where the ray had hit her. “Tam,” she asked confused. When her step dad see ill wasn’t doing anything to protect her, she looked at him too. “Keiben what …. Why?”

"You'll see soon enough... You have your uses to us!" his voice was cold, detached. Its lacked anything the would have signified that Keiben was still Keiben.

He was gone.
