Mission: Episode 2 - Echoes Of An Empire
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD5 0900

ON:

Lillian had decided to leave it a day before reporting to sickbay, after what she had seen in the briefing room. She hoped the doctor was in a better mood today.

Whistling a tune, she entered and walked over to the Doctor. "Good morning Doctor, I'm here for my medical."

"Good morning Ensign," Mel said placing her half drunk coffee down. "What were you whistling?" She asked.

“Oh, it's just a bit of Bach. I keep telling myself to learn an instrument but I haven't got round to it yet.” Lillian replied as she hopped onto a biobed next to them. “Do you play?”

“Oh gosh no. And I have no singing ability either, ” Mel chuckled. “It's been described as howling cats, ” she chuckled. “I do like listening though, ” she smiled.

“How are you setting into the ship?” she asked as she operated the monitors on the bed.

"Just fine, thank you." Lillian replied, glancing around the relatively small sickbay. "I studied the ships plans on my way over, I know I can find my way about fairly confidently now. Were you on board when the previous Captain was killed?" She asked, trying to be as delicate as possible.

Mel froze uncomfortably. "Yes," she said simply. "I'd rather not ... I can't talk about that yet. How have you been feeling in general?"

Sensing she had touched on a sore subject, Lillian let the matter drop. “I’m feeling fine thank you doctor. Getting settled in just fine. I trust my medical records have arrived from the academy.”

"Oh yes," Melanie answered. "I've never had a human patient with heterochromia before. The different flints of colour are fascinating. Sorry, you know us doctors. We get excited about things like this. I'm sure your fed up of people talking about your eyes."

"I wish..." Lillian replied. She sighed. "Unfortunately Doctor, I've not had much luck on the dating scene. The few dates I have been on were for lack of a better word... Disasters. I had a hard time getting the guys to take their eyes away from here..." She indicated to her chest area "To look at my eyes. Maybe I set my standards too high. I was holding out for a gentleman, someone.... charming, romantic. I don't know," she added with a humph "maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic."

“No your not. They're out there, the gentlemen. Don’t give up trying, ” Mel said gently. “Everything looks good here, ” she told her.

Lillian smiled at her. "Thank's doc. How are you settling into life onboard? Is it just me or was there a little.... tension in the briefing the other day?" She wasn't totally convinced she wanted to know the answer, but her curiosity had been piqued.

"It was a ... long day," Mel settled on. She couldn't say she was romantically involved with the CO and they had had a misunderstanding of course as Keiben wanted digression. "Life carries on for me as before. Just new and different people. It's an interesting mission though don't you think?" she smoothly changed the subject.

Lillian picked up on the attempted to change the direction of the conversation. "Yes, it should be an interesting mission assuming I can get the ship landed ok. You want to join me for a drink later?"

"I'm sure you will be able to land the ship," Mel said encouragingly.

She was surprised at the offer but it was bad timing. "I would like that but I have a teenager I have to help with homework and some tutoring this evening. May I take ... what is the humorous word you humans use? A rain check there?"

Lillian smiled "No problem. If that's all Doctor?"

Mel nodded. No readings were screaming out anything wrong. She appeared in excellent health. “You are free to go Ensign.”

Lillian smiled at her as she hopped down off the biobed. "I'll see you later. Bye."
