Timeline: MD6

(Back Post before the landing)

Jon stood in front of the door to sickbay and sighed. It wasn't that he hated doctors, or checkups, but he felt that they analyzed him the same way that he analyzed the ships systems. Maybe this doctor was going to be different. With another deep breath, he moved towards the door which opened into medical. He looked around to see if anyone was there, he was hoping that his appointment wasn't going to be with the EMH.

"You look nervous chief," Mel commented coming out of her office. "The counselor was only kidding. I don't bite."

"It's not the biting I'm worried about." Jon moved further into to the medical bay. "I don't know Doctor, these things never tend to go well. Where do you want me?"

“Biobed,” Mel nodded. “Why whats happened in the past to make it not go well?” She probed.

"Just things I suppose." Stoun spied the biobed and then hopped up on it. "No offense to you doctor of course." He tried to smile but only managed a half grin.

"Well if it would make you feel any better, I an offer you a holographic puppy to pet," Mel said smiling. "Are you worried Im going to put you on a diet due to your sugar levels?" she asked scanning and seeing that actually yes she was going to have to have some words with him there.

"Ehh that's ok, how has the dog been working? Had a chance to use it yet?" he tried to smile a bit. "I'm just getting older I guess, somedays things hurt, I can fix a warp core or a conduit, but I guess at a certain point you only so much you can do. I'm trying to watch the sweets, promise."

“Not with a patient but the staff adore him, ” Mel said honestly. She perched herself on the biobed next to him. “Okay I'm going to be honest. You really do need to watch the sweets but also take more care of yourself. Your showing inflammation building and that's why some days things hurt. You need to make some diet changes. I don't want to nag at you so I'm just going to send you some meal suggestions and exercises and leave that with you.”

"That's sweet of you, heh get it? Sweets?" He smiled a bit "I will try and cut back, I promise, and exercise?" He patted his stomach. "I'm the pinnacle of human health, a regular Adonis." He paused for a moment. "Ok maybe a Bacchus."

She smiled at his joke, actually impressed with herself that she got it. “I know you will Chief. Think of it like your body is one of your machines. Sometimes what we think is fuel isn't always the best fuel. But there's other options. You can have sweet tasting things without the carbs.

What sort of exercise do you have in mind?” she asked softly. He had taken that a lot better than she envisioned.

"I don't know, I guess I could get back into boxing, it has been a bit since I've done that, I don't like running.." He paused for a moment to think. "I don't know I guess I thought the duties of an engineer counted towards exercise. What would you recommend."

“I recommend something you enjoy Chief, ” Mel said simply. “If you enjoy boxing then fantastic. I run and I like to dance but I get that running is not for everyone. I wonder if anyone else boxes. A real sparing partner is probably more fun than a holographic one or a punch bag, ” she mused.

"Yeah, though those can be soothing too. I used to box a lot in my younger days." He stretched his back. "I don't know what else on on the hit list Doctor?"

"That's it. Exercise a bit more and cut down on the carbs and sugar. You should be fine then," she said honestly. "Any other questions?"

"Not really, I was expecting this to be a lot worse to be honest. Not on account of you, but well like I said, not very good experiences with medical in the past. When I was in the Core of Engineers, the doctors we got were essentially field medics, or people who were on their way out of the fleet which was insane since we were likely to suffer all kinds of injuries with the work we were doing."

"Oh don't get me wrong. If your doing dangerous work I will be on your tail," Mel said honestly. "No amount of washing your hair will stop that from happening."

Jon let out a big grin. "Well lets hope it doesn't get to that, though you are zero g certified right? I mean, if I'm out on the hull, you're coming after me right?"

"Well not yet but if I have to be," Mel told him firmly. She had mastered shuttles, zero G didn't sound too bad.

"Now about your constant reference to washing your hair. Is that a human joke or," she asked completely deadpanned even though she knew full well it was a joke. This was her own little bit of fun back at him, "Do you want hair because I could devise treatment to stimulate that again."

"Umm.. no... that's fine." He rubbed his head. "Much easier this way, don't have to worry about it getting burned off."

"Is that an occupational hazard I need to be aware of in Engineering?" the Trill asked still keeping her face deadpan.

"Well, umm, I mean.." He stammered not knowing quite how to respond. "I mean I guess with any position in the fleet, there are going to be some hazards I suppose, I mean the cold dark of space and what not, I" He paused again. "I think the bald suits me anyways."

"Oh it does. I was just teasing you," Mel admitted. "Seen as though you always seem to be "washing your hair". I have a good poker face do I not Chief?" she joked with him.

"Yeah, a little too good actually, remind me not to play poker with you." He frumpled his face a bit. "If everything else looks good, I should probably get back to work."

“Yes Chief, just come seen me again in a month. I want to see how your sugars are again, ” she said.

"Alright, thanks a bunch, I promise I'll be good."
