Setting a new course [Part 1]

Anja was in the middle of cooking breakfast when Damyan and Luiza came in. Damyan seemed to be a little bit down, and Luiza was trying to pick up his spirits.

"C'mon, what's wrong? Anja's making our favorite breakfast, and well, there is that cute girl in class. You know the little blonde that I've seen looking at you."

Damyan just grunted, "Don't care, sure she is cute and all that, I just want to do more than just sit in class. Its boring!" he responded and flopped himself into the chair at the table.

Anja was listening to this as she brought over the scrambled eggs, bacon and toast setting it down on the table. Anja couuld understand Damyan's feelings. Her uncle was like that when he was young, from what he said and her mother had agreed.

Mother, father, Uncle...

Anja turned her head away to wipe a tear from her cheeks.

"I just want to work with my hands and fix things, like, like well you know, Mister Teach. " Damyan mumbled.

Anja turned to look at Damyan, having a flash of an idea. Maybe this would work out, who knows?

Anja decided to head into her room leaving both Luiza and Damyan perplexed.

"I will be back out. Just start eating breakfast."

Once the door was closed, Anja called Edward Teach.

"Hi, I was wondering if you'd come to my quarters I've got something that I am going to need your help on and well, if you've not eaten breakfast yet I'll make something for you, sound good?"

Edward heard his com badge chirping and picked it up to tap it. " I can be there shortly lass, Give me a minute to finish getting dressed and I'll be there. And as for breakfast, that sounds good. Most likely better than what I was planning on with a bowl of gruel, a ration of ham and some hardtack with grog. I'll be there soon. " About five minutes later Edward chimed Anja's door.

Luiza hearing the door chime called out, "I'll get it!" and opened the door to find Teach there.

"Why hello there Mister Teach, we were talking about you, why don't you come in. Sis is in the bedroom, she'll be back out pretty soon."

Luiza turned to look at Damyan, "Say bro, look who's here." leading the way to the table. "And Mister Teach have a seat here, there's room, I'll get sis." and Luiza went to fetch Anja.

Edward grinned at Luiza. "Just talking about me were ya? I hope it was something nice. It's good to see you again lass. " He said as he followed Luiza to the table and sat down next to Damyan.

"Damyan me lad, Good to see you again. Life be treating you well I hope? " He asked.

Damyan huffed slightly, "School is boring, its just the same old same old. I'd rather be working with my hands. Why can't they teach in another way and just do something more practical. Heck my mom she did my schooling and also Luiza's and well, it was fun! The teachers here are just. not that great. All its been is maybe some applications but, they are dry, and not really into what they are teaching. We've got a planet that is just brimming with things to discover and there is another planet not too far away that well can do some hands on learning. That is what I crave, hands on learning, not just stuck in front of a console in a class room listening to a drab dreary boring instructor. "

Anja walked out of the room at that moment. "I didn't realize you were that bored in class. Your grades haven't seemed to be slipping. And I've not had any bad reports from the teacher. She said that you've been doing rather well, both of you."

Damyan groaned, "Its just easy stuff, mom had already shown me that. I'm just sitting there almost falling asleep!"

Anja looked at Teach and gave a smile, walking over and making him a plate of food. "Coffee, tea or orange juice?"

Edward stroked his beard. " So what your telling me lad is that you need a challenge or a new perspective of looking at things. I can see why your bored, I would be too if I was being taught the same thing I've already learned. " He stopped and looked up at Anja. " That looks mighty tasty there Anja. He said eyeing the plate. " And I'll take some coffee as black as the devil's soul if you please. "

He turned his attention back to Damyan. " I just happen to have the day off today, Perhaps you'd like to help me with a little project I'm working on? And when we get her done, I'll even let you fly it. I be working on a type eight shuttle that was going to be scrapped. She be a bitty thing with only four seats and a top speed of warp four. Her engine was fried and needed replacing, They didn't have one so she was listed as scrap. I even fount a replacement motor in the discard pile, it needs some work but we can manage it. " He said with a grin. So ya ready to get your hands dirty? Oh and I'll let your teacher know you'll be working on special project in engineering, You'll most likely have to write a report on it to receive credit for class time. " He looked to Anja. " Does this sound good to you Lass? You and Luiza are more than welcome to help out if you'd like. "

She looked at Damyan who's face lit up like the sun had just shone through a cloud then she saw Luiza's begging eyes. "Well, I will let Lieutenant Han know that I will be taking a personal day and sure why not I like that idea."

Edward nodded. " I hear that Lieutenant Han is a good man, But there is a rumor going around that you don't want to prank him. " He looked at Anja. " Is that rumor true? " He asked. Oh and by the way, would you like me to contact Damyan and Luiza's teacher and inform them or are you going to take care of that? "

Anja kinda chuckled, "Um from what I have heard yes the rumor is true he showed us pictures. There was proof. And I will let the teacher know what is going on. "

Luiza's face lit up as well. "Yes no more boring school! Well at least today. I want to go into science." she also stated.

"You do?" Anja was very surprised to hear that. She looked at Teach. "Oh my that is very unexpected."

Edward chuckled softly as he grinned at Anja. " It seems like the young lass seems to know what she wants to do with her life as well as young Damyan. I guess we'll have to set up some tailored learning programs for them to set them on a successful course towards their chosen profession. They are fourteen already and will be able to test for the academy in three to four years. I've got Damyan covered with engineering programs and can personally tutor him if that's what he wants. " He turned his attention back to Damyan. Does that sound good to you lad? " He asked.

He smiled at Luiza. " Your sister is one of the nicest and smartest people I know, And if she can't help you become a scientist, then I don't know who could. " He looked at the twins and asked them both. " Is it your intentions for the both of you to go to the academy and join Starfleet? As far as I'm concerned it's a mighty fine life. "

Damyan was rather excited at this prospect and so was Luiza, both of them exclaimed "Okay let's get going!"

Anja laughed at their excitement. "Okay then lets get going and enjoy this time together."
