He had a moment to stop and collect himself, leave a few notes on his desk for Mel for things to keep on top of. He couldn't think of a moment where she had been left in command before but she would be the only senior officer remaining and he trusted her implicitly. He could hear the footsteps of a gentle stride behind him and thought it might have been Tam coming to tell him off for leading a dangerous mission.

"No need to say it Tam, I already know what you are going to say but if I stay behind it will only weaken our standing with the T'Kon and its not much of a standing as it is!"

“She might have said that if it was Tam,” Mel said. He hadn’t sensed her, so things were really on his mind.

The voice that returned made him start, how had he not sensed his imzadi... Perhaps things were weighing on his mind.

"Mel... come in" he had turned and approached her, landing a kiss on her cheek. "I was just leaving you some orders... I need you here commanding the station!"

Mel bit her lip. This was bound to happen eventually but she hadn’t expected it so soon. “Be careful out there Keiben. We are talking millennia old species. One that Hal’s terrified of.”

"Copernicus has survived far worse than this" he said with a lobsided smile, attempting to make not only his wife feel better but himself also.

He reached out to take her hand and squeeze it gently wanting nothing more than to loose himself in her but even he could tell it felt more like he was taking one last look at the women he loved, burning her image into his mind... just incase things didn't go as planned. He would have one clear image of her before the end he hoped wouldn't be coming.

He broke away, trying to hide how he was really feeling but could also feel that she was passing through his telepathic barriers with ease, like a warm knife through butter. She was stronger than before... Possibly as strong as he.

"If we don't make it back you need to get the station home... Keep on top of the science team, keep pushing them to find a way, any way of getting you... Us!" he corrected quickly "Home!"

She nodded unhappily reached for him placing her hands on either side of his cheeks and her forehead to his. “I’m not loosing another husband. You hear me. Your coming back to me. And Charlie.

And this station,” she said pulling back, “this stations story is not ending here. I promise. Now what are these orders.”

"Beyond the science team just get as many of the tactical systems online as you can, bring the civilian population into the central core and fortify the shelter area's and be ready to defend the station when we return!"
He slipped his arm around her waist and pulled her close, kissing her, pouring his very being into the moment.
