Mission: Episode 4 - The Fires Of Hades
Location: Promenade
Timeline: prior to boarding Cerberus

Exploring a station this massive, and as modern as was possible - though less modern than his prior assignment it seemed- took time. Exploring the many shops available on the promenade, took even more time.

Lyras stood somewhere in the middle, at least he thought he was and somewhere close to a few vendors, just turning on his own axis to take it all in. So many people, so many different people! He stopped, as he came almost nose to nose with a green skinned female and he took a startled step back. "Oh... hello," he greeted, though it came out more or less as a stammer. Something very uncharacteristic, for someone of his ancestry.

Mirae had wasted no time in getting out of her issued work coveralls and into something more fitting. Good solid boots, loose dark blue pants with pockets, a white shirt and a nice jacket that matched the pants.

She'd been staring on doing some patrols and checking things off on her PADD when she came abruptly face to face with what appeared to be a bedazzled fleeter. "Hello..." she eyed him suspiciously.

"Please watch where you're going next time." She muttered.

"I apologize," Lyras muttered, taking a single step back. "I was just taking in the station, though.. you had not been here a second ago. Where did you come from?" He pauzed, trying to recompose himself. "I am Lyras," he finally introduced himself, before the silence became awkward.

Mirae just stood there and studied Lyras for a long moment before realizing she'd narrowed her gaze.

"Mirae. Security specialist." She gritted her teeth as she really wanted to rip into him for having his head in the clouds. Instead she sighed. "Just... pay attention to your surroundings so you don't cause an incident."

Lyras nodded slowly. "Of course," he answered, though he was still very certain she had snuck up to him somehow. "Have you been here long? On the station, I mean... I came from the Copernicus, I am part of the medical staff." And that he was still pretty young, was also fairly obvious despite Vulcan age being hard to guess. One might even guess his hybrid nature, from the lack of control - even though that wasn't necessarily a given.

Mirae was about to walk away when the vulcan decided he wanted to make conversation. Then she really wanted to walk away. "I've been here since the last shipment of indentured workers arrived."

Mirae smiled and widened her eyes for a second to emphasize the point and hoped he'd catch on. "And now my job is to make sure things keep moving in an orderly fashion on this thing so I don't end up back in chains."

"Why were you in chains?" He asked carefully as he gave her a once-over. "Has nothing changed for Orion females, are you still enslaved in this time?" At least, he assumed she was Orion, from the tone of her skin and the lack of pointed ears. It was also vastly different in colour than his. "And why would you end up in chains when you have done nothing wrong?*

"Geez you ask a lot of questions." Mirae said as she pinched the bridge of her nose between her thumb and forefinger. "Let me answer with four words... None of your concern."

The twirp was annoying in a cute way, but she didn't have time for games when she was trying to make a good impression and keep her tenuous position. "Now excuse me, but there's work to be done."

Lyras took a step aside, fully intent on letting her pass, but his curiosity won out. "Why is it none of my concern? Your physical well-being is of my concern ma'am. I am part of the station's medical staff." He paused. "Perhaps I can walk with you? Then I would not be holding you up, and you can satisfy my curiosity."

Mirae's eyes widened in a mix of confusion and horror. "You just don't give up do you?"

She sighed heavily. Since she didn't have a weapon she could just take him to a secluded spot and knock him out. Then again, that might not look good on her first day. "Fine... "

Mirae looked down at her PADD to see what was next on her to-do list. "I hope you like cargo bays."

"Why would I not like them?" Lyras arched a single eyebrow at her. "Give up what?" he then asked, "you still have not clarified why you were in chains and how being held up would put you back. If you are part of the security staff, surely you are free to do as you wish?"

Mirae gritted her teeth and spun around on the ball of her foot to face Lyras. "Because I was a prisoner. Still might be, I don't know. All I know is this is my chance to prove myself here and get my life back together and I can't afford anything fooling that up!"

She glared at the vulcan for a moment before realizing that she'd been gripping her padd so tight the blood had drained from her knuckles. "Look, Lyras was it? Lyras... I'm sorry. I'm stressed at everything going on and I don't want to be a failure. Not again."

"If you are in service of Starfleet, I am certain noone will consider you to be a failure." He paused. "Though I think I can relate. I am still catching up, so when I am lacking in something I should know as a doctor, I do feel I have failed." He gave her an uncertain smile. "I doubt you will fail," he repeated.

The genuine support she was receiving from this complete stranger hit her hard. She nodded slowly before muttering "Thank you."

"Now... " Mirae adjusted her uniform and motioned with the PADD. "I really do need to get back to work. Thank you."

The hybrid doctor nodded slowly, stepping aside. "Of course... I should head back to the infirmary. Thank you, for letting me accompany you. Perhaps we could...catch up later?" It was a Human term he wasn't quite familiar with though he'd been made to understand it meant that one would meet again later.

"Sure thing." Mirae said with a nod before getting back to her work. She tried to focus on the task ahead, but the young man had been so earnest it had been kind of endearing.
