Mission: Episode 4 - The Fires Of Hades
Location: Security Office on DS21
Timeline: A week before Time shift

Kaylee walked with a great deal of purpose, down the corridor of the station. Her goal was to talk with Lieutenant Sher'ra Verona the Chief of security. With all of the activity going on, Kaylee felt that Sher'ra could use the assistance. She stepped into the office.

"Hi there, Lieutenant Verona, I am Lieutenant Serra-Reynolds. I'd like to talk about working with you in the security department. " the blonde woman having a cheerful smile. "Maybe even in the capacity of an assistant chief of security? If you need it that is."

Llooking up from her desk, Sher'ra had a look of surprised bewilderment on her face, "well this is a first, someone volunteering for security. So, what are you running from? a partner? a mistake?"

Kaylee laughed. "I am not running from anything. I used to be Assistant Chief of Security on SB50. Since I am here, I felt
I would offer my services. Do something that I know how to do. If you are wondering what I have done in the past, I have been Chief of Security on the USS Europa, which was used to kill a Planet Killer." giving a shrug. "How about it, let me help you out okay? And it will help me out too."

Sher’ra shrugged, “Sure I won’t pass up some experienced help. It’d be great to have a taste tester for my culinary
experiments from time to time”

"That sounds great, and I cook as well." Kaylee chuckling. "I don't mind being a taste tester at all. Now all you need to do is make it official, as in making me an Assistant Chief of Security and we can move forward on that."

"Sure, just one thing. Have you discussed this with the Captain? however much I might like to, I can't just add people to my staff without permission from the higher ups"

Kaylee looked at Sher'ra. "It has been approved of my being on your staff. In fact I had just said I'd be just security personnel but, since my last position was as an Assistant Chief of Security, I did get transferred here. Here are my orders." handing the PaDD to Sher'ra. I just wanted to ask instead of saying accept it whether you like it or not." giving a friendly smile.

Looking over the orders, Sher’ra gave a sigh, “if you’re going to be my assistant chief, you should know I don’t like unpleasant surprises.” She said, accepting the transfer before handing the PADD back to her new officer. “Welcome aboard Lieutenant. I hope you don’t mind serving under a mere JG”

Kaylee gave a bit of an amused expression towards Sher'ra. "And am I an unpleasant surprise?" giving a wink. "Come now, I'm bright and sunny. I have been told I am just too happy and perky." laughing. Then her smile faded away. "not that I am always perky and smiling all the time. I've got to keep a good disposition in truth. Can't be running around all dour and gloomy. I've had my own troubles. Not as many as others but I've had my own trials." giving a bit of a shrug. "I don't mind serving under another lieutenant. And I don't care about the Junior Grade part of the rank. You are a lieutenant and also the Chief of Security. I've already done my stint as a Chief of Security, therefore you are the department head."

“Well it’s good to know I can rely on you for some sound advice. Hopefully my cooking is to your liking and I don’t end up poisoning you. Humans can react in strange ways to unfamiliar foods”

Kaylee laughed slightly, "Oh I am not pure human, I have some betazed in me as well, and don't worry, I do like quite a variety of foods." She replied. "And I am looking forward to tasting the cuisine you create. I can cook as well so it will be fun to see what each other likes from our cooking." she looked at Sher'ra. "What's the first item of business you want to take care of?"

Giving a smile, Sher'ra nodded before activating a holographic display that lit up the room. On the wall behind her was pictures and names of people wanted by the federation or it's allies, in front of them floating just above the table was a transparent display screen with local security feed constantly being updated, "Well, here is where we start. every face on that wall is an active case within this sector ranging from missing persons to wanted smugglers or suspected murderers." she said before motioning to the display between them, "and this is the active security feed from Starfleet itself plus a little from our allies in the Klingon Empire. Anything that is reported on this station to a security officer appears here."

"Nothing different than what I've worked with before." Kaylee responded taking a closer look at the wanted posters. "OKay he looks familiar and so does she." pointing out two faces. "they've been a bit elusive but I don't think they will be eluding capture for too long. All depends on if they stick true to their habits." pointing at them. "There is always a pattern that criminals display."

"Quite true, they tend to keep to their own safe places. Unfortunately the Klingons aren't always forth coming with information and with the Romulans in chaos over the Hobus event criminal activity has shot up rather drastically"

Kaylee nodded. "It seems like you've got a good crew for your security detail, though will probably be getting more as things progress. Plus, I'm not too bad at gaining information myself. "giving a smile.

“I try not to step into that area too much. The Intel people tend to get annoyed when you break a prisoners jaw before they can get to them, but I’m sure this station will have enough to keep us both busy” Sher’ra said before getting an idea. Leaning down to grab something from the bottom draw next to her desk, she pulled out a bottle of blood wine and two glasses, “well, how about a toast to your new job?”

Kaylee raised an eyebrow then she gave a nod. "Since you've not started me officially in the capacity of Assistant Chief of Security, we can have a toast." giving a bit of a smile. "Qapla!" she remarked.

Giving a smile, Sher’ra poured each of them a glass before pushing one of them over to Kaylee, “Cheers” she said, choosing the more traditional saying as Kaylee had used the Klingon one.

Kaylee took a sip of it, letting the wine drift over her taste buds. It was something that she used to do with her father's wines, being one of the wine tasters at home. She then took another swallow. "This is good stuff!" Kaylee exclaimed, with a grin.

Sher'ra was surprised at Kaylee's reaction, "Really? Usually people find blood wine hard to drink. You must have quite the pallet"

"I have had blood wine before, guess it comes with the territory. My father has his own winery, and we've been able to sample different wines from different races. Sure bloodwine can be really strong in its flavor but, if a person takes the time to really taste the flavors, they could tell the difference. I have tasted some awful bloodwine." she wrinkled her nose at that memory, "This one is good, where is it from?"

"It's from my cousins farm in the Empire. They produce blood wine for some of the minor houses and I managed to get a few bottles. I've been trying to incorporate them into a few of my dishes, but it turns out blood wine doesn't react well to fire"

Kaylee gave a bit of a grimace, at hearing this. "Oh I agree with you there, I saw my mother try that and she had to restart dinner from scratch." she took another drink of the blood wine, the glass now half empty. "Definitely good." giving a nod. "Now, have another question, will we be dividing on what shift we'll be taking? "

"That's up to you, but it would be nice to know there's someone with some good experience running one of the other shifts while I'm off duty. Do you have a preference for what shift you want to work?" Sher'ra asked.

"Beta would work for me, this way I'd be able to sleep with my husband, and you can take Alpha. Do you have a significant other?" Kaylee asked not knowing much about Sher'ra. "When I was on the other station, I was working grave shifts for a little bit. And I would prefer not to do that this time."

Sher’ra smiled, “actually I do, he runs one of the stalls on the Promenade” she said, trying not to picture him naked while on duty, “Alpha works for me. What does your husband do?”

"My husband is a Counselor, he was Chief Counselor on SB50, and now he also will be part of getting a colony established on the planet we are near. I am excited about that." Kaylee grinning ear to ear. "A place to explore, be able to feel the sun and see nature."

"I know, I am so excited to see what kinds of wildlife and edible plants are down there, but first I want to make sure this station is a safe place for us to explore from." Sher'ra said, imagining the fun of hunting on the planet. "hopefully the colony will be set up without issue"

"I hope so as well." Kaylee giving out a sigh. "It would be nice, however that will be in the future. So... your heart's desire we'll have to do a dinner together you, him, Liam and me." giving a grin then finished off her blood wine.

“Liam?” Sher’ra asked, doing a quick computer search, “do you mean Commander Reynolds?”

"Yes Commander Reynolds is my husband." Kaylee giving a bright smile and had stars in her eyes. " We got married not too long ago and now we are here. A new home, a new beginning." just beaming. "So about your love, how long have you known him?"

"not long, only a few months. We met when he came onboard the Copernicus as a patient and now we're together here on the station. He runs his own stall on the promenade" Sher'ra answered

"That is pretty cool. I've been married to Liam for just a few months. We met and something just clicked. Come to find out we met when I was ten years old. He kissed me on the cheek at a party his mom held. I had forgotten about that until I went to a family dinner with him." Kaylee beamed at the memory. She then noticed the time, "Speaking of dinner, looks like it's that time. Don't worry I'll be back on duty afterwards."

“Do you want some help with the cooking?” Sher’ra offered .

"Not tonight. Have a special dinner planned for my honey." Kaylee giving a beaming smile. "I've got something planned." giving a wink to Sher'ra. "And well... " her cheeks turning a light pink and a sparkle in her eyes. She rose from the chair. "I will see you later though."

"Don't get yourself too injured. I expect you to show up for duty at least capable of holding a phaser" Sher'ra said, nodding towards the door, "go on get outta here"

Kaylee grinned, "I promise not to get injured." rising up from her chair, "Thanks again." she headed towards the door giving a final wave before disappearing from view.
