The room was dark and the view from the oval window had been too enticing not to investigate. After all, this room, this office if one could call it that, was now his own. The vista from the window was more than impressive with a view of the habitat ring and beyond that, the docking ring framed on either side by docking pylons that were reaching up into the Briar patches' burnt orange hues. Slowly circling beyond that was The Missouri, a Nebula Class ship, its regal beauty only amplified by the surroundings.

"Computer, begin Captains log... wait, begin station log. Stardate 301225.1. This is my first log as master of this station. I come to the task with mixed feelings. On one hand, I am an explorer by nature. I joined Starfleet to be out among the stars seeking out new life and uncovering the mysteries of the universe."

He paused, once again caught up by the magnificent beauty of their surroundings but also in awe at the ferocious power and danger they also could be.

"The Copernicus is in one piece and she can be repaired but she took heavy damage, as did the crew and me personally. Jelani Olowe... one of my best officers and a survivor of the massacre that propelled me to Captain... She lost her life and I have to find the right words to tell her family. Perhaps being on a station isn't so bad, and this is the mixed feelings part. Surely we will be facing less danger in a stationary spot and we have so many mysteries to uncover here on the station, the first being why is it here?".

His hand found his mug of Raktajino, something the engineers of the Missouri gifted to him and the crew, a complete replicator database compatible with the Cardassian replicator technology. He savoured the smell and taste for but a moment before returning to his log.

"The Admiral will be in the area for some time... turns out my old friend Captain Jones is soon to give birth so he will be keeping her seat warm for a time... I intend to reach out to her and convince her to spend some time here on the station with us... It might do both of us some good and who knows, she may even make it for the wedding. Mel finally agreed to tie the not. Life is too short to wait so I asked her not to wait and by this time next week I will be married man, I only wish we had been able to speak to Ileyana for her to be here, and Mels other children... I'll make it up to her somehow...
For now, we have enough on our plate. Fix the station, get the dry dock facility constructed and turn this dead shell of a station into a thriving hub of activity and commerce for the sector... No small feat but the more I think about it, the more I feel this is something we can achieve... Something we can take pride in and we can still continue to explore. This region is vast and mostly unknown to us. I suppose that's the end of this log... " he chuckled slightly before he could catch himself. "It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!"

His cup now empty and the ceramic no longer holding the heat, he stood and started for the door.
So much to do.

"Computer end log and save!"
