Mission: Episode 2 - Echoes Of An Empire
Location: Various
Timeline: tba Arrival (Backstory arrival)

Junjie sat in the front of the shuttle craft and took a hard look at the Copernicus as they approached. The ship was being swarmed by worker bee repair shuttles, the extendable claws and cutting torches hauling away damaged parts and repairing the areas that needed it. " Who attacks a science ship?" he muttered under his breath.

The shuttle dodged some debris and managed to land safely in the docking bay. He stepped out of the shuttle with his gear and PADD in hand and looked about hoping that the internal damage wasn't to severe.

Standing in the shuttle bay, Sher'ra was waiting for the newest member of the crew to arrive. although this was her first official welcome as part of the Copernicus' senior staff, she was going to give it all she had. Watching as the shuttle landed, Sher'ra took a deep breath before walking over to the off ramp, "Welcome aboard, I am Ensign Verona Chief of Security" she said, offering a handshake.

Junjie accepted the handshake and gave a slight bow at the same time. " I am pleased to meet you. I am Ensign Junjie Han, reporting aboard as the new Chief Science Officer. Is there anything I can do to help out with what's going on in the ship? There seems to be quite a bit of repairs going on, I take it was a rough trip? Are you currently coming aboard like I am, Or have you been on the ship for a while?"

Junjie stopped talking and closed his eyes and let out a breath. He opened his eyes and smiled. " I am sorry for asking so many questions. It's a habit I'm afraid that most scientist are guilty of. Questions, questions, questions is what we scientist love asking, But it's answers that we really want."

Sher'ra simply smiled, "Don't worry, questions are always welcome. I think the best thing you can do for now is to make sure your department is ready and keep out of the way of Engineering. as for me, I was apart of the rescue team that was sent to recover the ship and the new CO asked me to stay on. so in a way we're both new arrivals to this ship"

" Well that's good to know." Junjie said. " I am looking forward to getting to know the ship and crew. You know those bigger ships that make first contact get the glory, but we're the ones that do the learning of the culture and build relationships with the new races and research all new anomalies, Ancient cultures and are basicly in the thick of everything. And that's good enough for me. So how about we take a brief tour of the ship if you don't mind?"

"by all means, sounds like fun. maybe we should start with officers quarters than head on down to the science sections. what do you think?" Sher'ra suggested

"Sounds good to me." Jinjie stated. It's always good to explore the areas where your going to be working and living. Have you had much time to check the ship out yourself since you've been here?"

Sher’ra shook her head, “not really, making sure an entire department is ready is a lot of work so I haven’t had much time to myself”

Junjie chuckled. " Well between the two of us I think we can figure out enough to muddle our way through it. Perhaps the rest of my gear has been beamed aboard by now. If so the transporter chief most likely hates me by now with the number of books that were packed. with that said please lead on." He said with a warm smile.

“Oh don’t worry about that, I’m sure the transporter chiefs found it no different to their usual tasks” Sher’ra replied. Leading the way out of the shuttlebay and into the ship, “so, science chief, what do you do exactly?”

" What is it that I do? Hmm...Well I guess you could say that a science officer is somewhere between a researcher and a detective. I study the mysteries in the universe and found in nature. We try to uncover and understand ancient cultures, as well as the life cycles of stars and planets. I guess you could say that the science community wants to understand everything around them as well as help others understand it as well." was Junjies responce.

" I know that you do more then just keep people safe aboard ship. Do you enjoy your job? And outside of security what are some things you enjoy if I may ask?"

“I do enjoy my job. Outside of security, I oversee weapons training for the crew, both large and small arms. I also coordinate with engineering to make sure the ships tactical systems are up to specs” Sher’ra replied, trying to remember what she’d read on the layout of the ship, “so you research the big questions? Meaning of life stuff?”

"I would say more of the origins of life and whatever Starfleet wants or needs studied. Simply put, our job is to learn and understand any mysteries the universe presents us so that we may share this knowledge with others to benefit all. Oh and the meaning of life is an easy one. First off, Live laugh and love. Second, Always live your life so that you help your community live better lives. Third. Find those people in your life to help bring joy and happiness into your life and thiers. This was taught to me by my great grandmother, who would hit you with her wooden cooking spoon for disagreeing with her wisdom." He said with a chuckle.

Sher'ra smiled, "She sounds like a good woman." she said, thinking back to all those times her own mother use a wooden spoon to discipline her as a child. "well, so long as you don't end up summoning some strange subspace beings onto the ship, I don't think we'll have any problems. I'll keep security out of your hair"

Junjie grinned at Sher'ra's comment and then leaned in closer and semi whispered. " I'll tell you a secret about your Chief Science Officer. I flunked out of every arcane ritual and summoning class in starfleet academy, Never got the knack of summoning things so I guess we're safe there." He said with a good natured smile..

“So I wasn’t the only one who failed those classes? Yes, I’ve finally found someone who sucks at magic as much as I do” Sher’ra replied, more than happy to play along, “well I guess this is going to be a boring ship after all. No demons to deal with and all that. Guess I’ll just have to deal with the non supernatural dangers. Makes warp core breaches almost sound like fun”

Junjie laughed. " I like your sense of humor. It's nice to know that I'm not on a ship full of stuffed shirts with no sense of humor. Any job can be fun if you know how to make it so." Junjie looked about for a moment. " Oh...Are we at the officers quarters already? Time certainly flies when your having a pleasant conversation."

He stepped into his new quarters and looked around for a minute. " Well it's definitely bigger then my last posting. I had to share a room with another Ensign. Then again I wasn't the ship's CSO either." He looked at the pile of boxes in the middle of the room. " The transporter chief is certainly efficient, it appears all my gear has been delivered."

"told ya, the chief is good at his job, or her job, I'm not sure I haven't actually met them yet" Sher'ra said, giving a bit of a shrug, "anyway, the point's still valid. everything there?"

Junjie moved over to the pile and did a quick count. " Yes they got them all. One medium wooden crate and fourteen boxes. Everything I need to live a normal live condensed down to this pile." as he looked at the pile and then glanced back up at Sher'ra. " I'll unpack all this later. Shall we continue our tour or would you care for a cup of tea first?"

Sher’ra thought for a second, “I think we should got you down to the labs. As soon as we check everything off, the sooner the ship can depart”

" True, true. Captain's reports must come before tea. I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to show me around. Or perhaps I could buy you a drink in the forward lounge sometime if you'd like." Junjie sighed. " Once more into the breach dear friend, Let us inspect those labs."

“I believe the labs are this way” Sher’ra said, trying to remember the layout.

A few minutes later found them in the labs. Junjie spent several busy minutes making sure the equipment was properly hooked up and working. Satisfied he walked back over to Sher'ra. " Most of the gear is brand new and top of the line, I believe the Captain will be pleaed with the report." Junjie laughed for a moment and held up his hand. " I'm sorry. I just thought of my brother who used to tease me about being an egghead and being high on pure nerd nip." He shrugged his shoulders. " Science is my passion." He looked about the lab. " I could easily lose track of time down here working on a project."

Sher'ra smiled, "you're not the only one who gets lost in their work. when I start cooking It's like I'm in a world of my own. I guess all you need is someone to remind you to eat something once in a while"

Junjie laughed. " Yes sometimes I do need a little reminder now and then." He turned to look at Sher'ra. You enjoy cooking do you? I've a fair hand at it myself. Being the eldest my mother and grandmother insisted I learn to cook to help out with the family meals." He rolled his eyes and chuckled. " Along with doing my homework assignment, running the bath water for my siblings, Tutoring my siblings for their homework and whatever else needed to be done. So do you have a prefered cooking style?"

Sher’ra shook her head, “not really, though combining Klingon and Federation cooking can be an art in itself”

Junjie cocked his head to the side and raised an eyebrow in surprise. " Really? A Klingon/Federation fusion style is most interesting." He said with curious interest. " What would you pair with say.....Pipius Claw and.....?" He thought for a moment. “And would it go best with a Brandy, a wine or a Bloodwine? "

“I think I would turn Pipius claw into a pasta dish and pair it with a nice red wine. Bloodwine would also work, but it’s a little predictable”

Junjie nodded his head approvingly. " And to round it out I think I would plate it with garlic toast, vegetable fried rice with a side of snow peas. And I agree it would go very well with either a red or rose wine." Junjie finished tapping away at his PADD and pressed the final button. " Good! Lab report sent off to the Captain that labs are ready and fully operational anytime he's ready to get underway."

" Well with all the work out of the way, How about we swing by the mess hall? Talking about food has made me a bit hungry, And it is about lunch time. Are you up for a bite to eat?"

Sher’ra shook her head, “I appreciate the offer but I’ll have to take a rain check. I’ve got a few things of my own to check up on. Besides, you’ve given me some recipe ideas”

" Thank you for showing me around the ship, It is very appreciated. I think I'll have a quick bite and get back to work myself." He thought a moment. " Anytime you want to bounce a recipe idea off me feel free to do so, As long as I can do the same in return. Deal?" He asked with a warm smile.

“Deal. Perhaps the two of us could give this crew some of the best and strangest foods in the galaxy” Sher’ra replied, as she turned to leave.

" Sounds interesting. I think I might enjoy doing something like that." He stated as he head off towards his own destination.
