Personality & Traits

General Overview Born with a happy disposition, Amia changed radically when her mother died just after her 16th birthday from a ‘curable’ disease. She became resentful and felt betrayed by her community’s belief that rejects advanced technology and which resulted in there being insufficient advanced medical care to save her mother. Even now, some 22 yrs on, she can still be cynical and withdrawn when this or similar subjects raise their heads too close to her. She cares deeply, can be emotional but is well practised at hiding this. She retains her childlike sense of fun somewhere underneath her established social ‘defence shields’ but she is slow to trust especially of late.
Strengths & Weaknesses Having been brought up on the Ba’ku homeworld, Amia needs some metaphasic radiation balancing in order to survive out of her natural habitat without becoming ill. Being half human means that the amount of radiation she needs is very low, but when she first left Ba’ku in search of her father, she presented at a Federation station in a state of near collapse, suffering from symptoms that were diagnosed and treated, saving her life. Starfleet medical implanted a low-grade metaphasic-radiation-emitter under her skin, close to the base of her left ear, which keeps her system balanced and healthy. Lately victim to a brutal captivity by Cardassians, Amia's health, whilst restored, has been hard won back by many operations, repairs and restoration physically.
Ambitions At 16, Amia was impressed by the Federation when her life was saved and also knew that her missing father had been a Starfleet Officer, so it seemed natural to her to enlist into the Academy. She would dearly love to find her father but knows too little about him to hope that she actually will. She has made Starfleet her life, having no other ties.
Having been widowed and left pregnant, Amia has a child to consider now but now she is no longer strong enough to return fully to the CMO position and Commander rank she used to hold. Nowadays, Amia is just focussing on getting back to full health physically and mentally. She is less interested in her career and more interested in her quality of life now, hoping to get to a place where she can offer a safe, secure and loving life to her daughter. She is very aware that Liana does have all of that with her Trill grandparents and she doesn't want to bring her away from that until she herself is in a place to be able to better it or at least match it.

Personal History Amia was born on Ba’ku in 235(?Tbc) to Rayenne Soren, a Ba’Ku woman who fell in love with a Terran Federation Officer stationed briefly on the Ba’Ku Homeworld as a diplomatic envoy. When he left, it was too soon to know that he was leaving Rayenne pregnant and although he had promised to keep in contact, she never heard from him again. Unaware whether her lover had simply abandoned her, or if he had been killed or detained somewhere, Rayenne never gave up on his return and told her daughter many affectionate tales of her father and his ‘Federation’ creating something of hero-worship in the little girl.

Rayenne took ill with an infection soon after Amia’s 16th birthday, but due to the BaKu Community’s beliefs that rejected all advanced technology, she died. Feeling betrayed and left bereaved by the beliefs of the Community she had grown up in, a distraut Amia smuggled aboard a supply vessel and left the Homeworld in a rather naive search of a better life and to also look for her father if he really was ‘out there’ somewhere.

She found Starfleet and its Doctors at the first stop the supply vessel made, which was opportune as she was in trouble without the metaphasic radiation of her home planet, but once diagnosed, she was cured and fitted with a low-pulse limited-field emitter, she recovered and insisted she was 19 and old enough to enlist.

When she arrived on Earth it was discovered that she was not as old as she claimed to be, but due to her violent objection to being returned to Ba’ku and as it was confirmed that her story was true of having a mother who had recently died and a Starfleet father who had impregnated her mother and then abandoned her, Admiral Stephens, in charge of Amia’s case, judged that an exception could be made. Amia was made a ward of the Federation and required to finish her schooling for 2 years before being given free choice to enrol at the Academy course when she was 18.

After passing out with good results, Amia spent time at the Zephram Cochrain Medical Insitute of Studies, doing a medical course and again passed with good grades. She was assigned a junior medical officer and worked her way up to CMO aboard the DS5 Space Station where she was taken captive, tortured, broken and almost died in Cardassian captivity.

On her journey to that Station, Amia had worked aboard the USS Illustrious which then was refitted and renamed the USS Nimitz, Amia met and fell in love with a Starfleet Officer of her own, much in the image that she imagined her father must have been like, although she never knew him, like any little girl, she had listened to her mother's stories about him and formed her own impression of what he must (to her mind) have been like.

Amia's love interest was a Pilot and Helmsman when she met him, and he was all she believed an officer and a gentleman should be. After a beautiful romance the couple married and moved together to DS5 to start a new life as husband and wife. Amia could not have been more overjoyed.

Amia and her ‘Prince Charming’ – aka Joined Trill Lt Cmdr Caden Aldrex, were married in 2390 when she has took on his family name of Telamon and having later been given orders from Starfleet to transfer to DS5, Caden had found a new job as Executive Officer on the Station. Both Caden and Amia had been promoted to Commander on their transfer, hers as CMO, and the couple lived and worked there until their daughter was conceived. Just before she was born, Commander Caden Telamon/Aldrex was promoted to Captain and given command of the starship USS Renown which was ordered out to the ‘Galactic Core’ to make First Contact with the “Hyrazan” race.

It wasn’t a long time after the ship had left the Alpha Quadrant that it was lost to contact. Neither the Renown, her crew or Captain Aldrex himself were ever to return. Classed as MIA initially, it was eventually decreed that they had all been KIA leaving Amia a pregnant Widow.

This hung over Amia for a very long time of grieving but eventually she took herself and her daughter to visit Caden’s family on Trillius Prime, where his parents tried to persuade her to stay with them.

Amia hadn’t made a decision on this when she had received a message from her ACMO that DS5 had been seized and taken over by a combination of Cardassians and Xi-Cardians, so in order not to endanger her daughter, Amia left her with her grandparents and rushed back to defend her Departmental Staff and friends, only just getting back in time to rejoin them and trying to help defend the Station - unsuccessfully.
Before long Amia and her ACMO Lt Cmdr River Morgan were forced to join the evacuation to the Planet around which DS5 Orbits. There she joined up with some of the other crew and went on a mission, during which they came upon some Cardassian soldiers who had been injured.

Taking the injured Cardassian survivors prisoner, the two doctors had tended to their wounds and saved their lives but the delay had separated them from their original group who had moved on to their own next mission. Amia & River were trying to transport their patients/prisoners back to somewhere less remote and safer, carrying them on hand made stretchers attached to their own backs with one carried between them as well, when they happened upon other Cardassian Soldiers and were captured themselves.

Hoping their having saved the lives of the injured Cardassians, might mean they would at least be treated with some reciprocal civility, the two doctors were sadly disappointed, finding themselves instead at the hands of cruel and merciless captors. The treatment that Amia in particular was subjected to was the last straw for her, physically and mentally and it was left to River to bring the two of them home, by escaping dramatically and getting them back to Starfleet who had at last sent in some starships to liberate DS5.

Her ACMO, River, had recovered from her injuries which she had managed to keep to a minimum by sleeping with the Glinn in charge of their tiny outpost/jail.

Service Record Admiral Stephens, in charge of Amia’s case, when she was found at the age of 16, judged that an exception could be made and she made a ward of the Federation and required to finish her schooling for 2 years before enrolling at the Starfleet Academy when she was 18.

This ship was refitted and renamed the USS Nimitz, where Amia met and married moving almost instantly together to DS5 in 2390. Caden had been given a new job as Executive Officer and both he and Amia had been promoted to Commander on their transfer, hers as CMO

Aldrex was promoted to Captain and the first mission his ship went on left him KIA and leaving Amia a pregnant Widow.

Some time later, DS5 was invaded and seized by a combination of Cardassians and Xi-Cardians, so Amia had to leave her daughter with Caden’s parents and rush back to defend her Departmental Staff and friends. The ensuing occupation resulted in a medical recouperation for Amia that lasted a very long time and she is only just ready to return to normal working.
